Further information
On this morning tour, you will discover Comillas, the only Modernist town in Cantabria.
Prepare to be amazed by the fascinating story that links Comillas with Antonio López y López, the first Marquis of Comillas and the visionary figure behind the town’s most iconic landmarks. We will begin with a guided visit to Villa Quijano, better known as Gaudí’s El Capricho.
This remarkable villa is one of the earliest works of the celebrated architect Antoni Gaudí, commissioned in 1885 by the Cantabrian lawyer Máximo Díaz de Quijano. Its importance lies in marking the beginnings of the Modernist movement and in being one of the very few works Gaudí created outside Catalonia.Afterwards, we will continue with an optional visit to the former Major Seminary of Comillas (also the old University of Comillas).
Designed by renowned Catalan architects Joan Martorell and Lluís Domènech i Montaner, this impressive hilltop building blends several architectural styles, including Modernism, and offers breathtaking panoramic views over Comillas, with a privileged outlook on the Sobrellano Palace.Guests who prefer not to visit the seminary will have free time to stroll around the village of Comillas at their own pace.
Before heading back, we will enjoy a short panoramic drive around Comillas, discovering some of its most emblematic spots, such as the old cemetery, the harbor, and the beautiful beach—perfectly rounding off a memorable cultural experience.
